study in uk

The UK carries a reputation of being an expensive country to study. Many students are not clear on the costs involved to study at a British University and end up choosing other countries, which may be equally expensive too. But, did you know you can study in the UK for under 20 lac rupees including your fee and living? Let us know how! Hey guys, Welcome to Leap Scholar. In today s video let us talk about the costs to study in the UK. But this ain t just another video. Today, we are going to calculate expenses to study for a Masters Program in the UK along with potential earnings whilst working part-time to calculate effective costs. It's as simple as, Effective Costs = Expenses - Earnings In the expenses, we will cover your IELTS, Application Fee, Tuition Fee, Living Costs, Immigration Health Surcharge, Visa Fee, Airfare, and other miscellaneous expenses. In earnings, we factor in your total income from Part-time job during your degree.

. No. 1, your degree is a 1 year Masters Degree without an industrial placement

No. 2, You have a part-time job paying you 7 pounds an hour. To give you an idea, the average part time wages in the UK range between 6 to 9 pounds, we are assuming an average of 7 here. Get a notepad and a calculator and let us begin drafting our financial plan. Let us start with Expenses. No. 1 IELTS The expense is zero if you get your IELTS waived. Chances are if you studied in CBSE or ICSE boards in your 12th grade and possess 65 to 70% above, your IELTS will be waived! But not everyone will get a waiver. So let us assume 15700 as your total expense here. 14700 for the exam and 1000 for IELTS coaching, provided you get your IELTS Prep from Leap! No. 2, Application Fee Unlike Canada, most British universities have no application fee for Masters Degrees barring a few top ones that charge application fees. So the expense on this is zero.

No. 3, Tuition Fee So once you get through the university you wish to study at, its time to pay your tuition fee. Many universities will ask for a deposit before the process is carried forward to ensure that you wish to accept your offer. But let s talk about the full Master s fee here which will be around 16000 pounds that will be 16 lacs in our currency. The average fee varies between 12000 to 19000 pounds for a tier 2 university. If you want to go for a top-ranking one, add another 10000 or 10 lacs to 16000, which will be around 26 lac rupees.

No. 4, Living Costs If your university is inside London, add 12006 pounds for living costs, roughly around 12 lac rupees. If your university is outside London, add 9500 pounds roughly around 9.5 lac rupees.

No. 5, Immigration Health Surcharge or IHS You will need this to cover your health expenses in the UK and it is mandatory for every international student. The amount you pay depends on the length of your stay in the UK. The fee is 470 pounds for every stay that lasts 6 12 months and 235 pounds for any additional period that is less than 6 months. So you will be going to do a course that lasts 12 months. Ideally, your visa should start 1 month before your course start date and should cover the length of your course plus an extra 4 months. Your visa should last for 17 months in total so you will be required to pay an IHS fee of 705 pounds which means 70000 rupees.

No. 6, Visa Fee The visa fee plus chest x-ray is required to process your student visa application for the UK. The application will be 348 pounds or 34000 rupees plus 2500 for chest x-ray from an approved clinic by the British High Commission. Last, Miscellaneous Expenses That will cover your airfare and some cash in hand. 30000 rupees for a one-way ticket and 500 pounds cash in hand which is 50000 rupees. So your total expenses are, 1. If you are studying in a top-ranking university in London - 40 lacs 2 thousand and 200 rupees 2. If you are studying in a tier 2 university in London - 30 lacs 2 thousand and 200 rupees 3. If you are studying in a top-ranking university outside London - 37 lacs 52 thousand and 200 rupees 4. If you are studying in a tier 2 university outside London - 27 lacs 52 thousand and 200 rupees Now let's talk about earnings, So you have a part-time job paying you 7 pounds an hour. Let us assume for 9 months you work 20 hours a week during your term time. Your total earnings will be 5040 pounds or 5 lac rupees. For 3 months during your break, you work full time 40 hours a week. Your total earnings for this period will be 3360 pounds or 3 lac 40 thousand rupees. Total earnings will be 8 lac 40 thousand rupees approximately. Now let us talk about effective cost. Subtracting your earnings from your expenses, A degree from top tier university in London will cost you roughly around 31 lac rupees A degree from top tier university outside London will cost you roughly around 29 lac rupees A degree from a tier 2 university in London will cost you 21 lac rupees A degree from a tier 2 university outside London will cost you 19 lac rupees Bonus, If you are able to avail a scholarship worth 3000 pounds of 3 lac rupees which most universities offer, you will be able to save 3 lacs more. The figures I have discussed are great value for money given British universities are highly reputed and recognized for their academic excellence. The total effective cost to study for a Masters in the UK, therefore, becomes one of the cheapest across most English Speaking Countries including Australia, Canada, USA, and New Zealand as all these countries offer a 2 years program.
