The rules include the appointment of 3 officers Orders:- There are new rules for social media, OTT (over the top) and digital platforms. Accordingly, the concerned companies are required to appoint a Chief Compliance Officer, a Nodal Contract Officer and a Resident Grievance Redressal Officer. However, no major company has hired these officers.
The deadline to implement the new rules for social media expired on Tuesday. But giant social media platforms like Facebook and Twitter have not yet implemented the new rules. As a result, the platforms could be shut down from Wednesday, officials warned. Facebook has commented on this. A Facebook spokesperson said, “We want to follow the new rules for social media in India. But there are some issues that need further discussion with the government. We are committed to allowing people to express their views freely on our platform. We are working on the process of enforcing the new rules. The Central Government had issued the Information Technology Rules 2021 on February 25. It was given three months to implement.
